I’m not going to do a proper critical and or gushy review on this book. It wants the truth.įrom the final idea of award-winning author Siobhan Dowd - whose premature death from cancer prevented her from writing it herself - Patrick Ness has spun a haunting and darkly funny novel of mischief, loss, and monsters both real and imagined. The monster in his backyard is different. But it isn't the monster Conor's been expecting - he's been expecting the one from his nightmare, the nightmare he's had nearly every night since his mother started her treatments. Blurb:Īn unflinching, darkly funny, and deeply moving story of a boy, his seriously ill mother, and an unexpected monstrous visitor.Īt seven minutes past midnight, thirteen-year-old Conor wakes to find a monster outside his bedroom window. This is the first book on my July TBR as mentioned in my July TBR Video(which you can watch by clicking on the link). I didn’t think I’d love it as much as I actually did, as I didn’t really know what to expect other than the wonders of Patrick Ness’ writing. It has taken me years to get my hands on this book and I am so happy to have finally bought it and read it. Everyone can relate to this book in one way or another.
